Known as Lannvorek in Cornish, Mevagissey is a small fishing village to the south of St Austell in Cornwall. The inner and outer harbours are always busy with pleasure and working fishing boats, what remains of a once major fishing industry. Tourism is now the major industry for Megavissey, its labyrinth of tiny streets lined with ancient dwarf buildings and the selection of eateries and shops are just a few of a number of attractions. Others include, The Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Charles Town Shipwreck Museum. Mevagissey, along with the nearby Gorran, is the true essence of Cornwall having remained true to its roots and only very slowly embraced change. Both town names were given by 6th century Irish missionaries
