Sutton, as the town is often known, is to the north east of Birmingham but was initally part of Warwickshire and had the status of a Royal Town until 1974. The town hall which is a relic of this former status, now acts as a theatre, conference and functions venue. This Royal Status was granted by Henry VIII in 1528. Sutton is home to two of the foremost Residential Estates in the Midlands, the Little Aston Park and Four Oaks Estate areas are very prestigious locations renowned across central England. Sutton is mostly a commuter town for residents working in nearby Birmingham but does have a number of attractions. On a sporting front, it is home to Sutton Coldfield Town FC and Wyndley Leisure Centre also has a 400m athletics track. The town also host The Great Midlands Fun Run. Shopping needs are met by the Gracechurch Centre, Suttons main shopping centre. The town also boasts the first television transmitter outside London - Sutton Coldfield television transmitter. Another site of interest is the Roman road Icknield Street which crosses Sutton Park towards the west of the town.
