The Peak District National Park was the first National Park. Kinder Scout, has the highest point, where protesters established the "right to roam" the moors. Its beauty is renowned. Look carefully at the rocks older than 300 million years in dry stone walls, and you could see fossils of ancient sea creatures or plants. There are reservoirs to walk and cycle round, or for fishing. You can hike over the moors where there are species of rare mosses and birds. Try walking or biking round Derwent, Ladybower or Howden reservoirs. Climb the cliffs, walk along the scenic meandering rivers, or just sit and take it all in. The scenery is fantastically beautiful and diverse.

Attractive Matlock on the river Derwent Bath with its gorges, cliffs, and tourist shops is visited by many. Historic Buxton where you can sample the fresh mineral waters, visit museums, markets and Art galleries. Chesterfield is known for its strangely shaped church spire along with its food, antique and second hand markets where you can pick up a bargain; as well as its canal. Villages practicing the ancient art of well dressing. This local custom could go back to pagan times. Historic Eyam village was visited by the Black Death, in 1665. There are many reminders of this time in the village which is said to be haunted. There are many historic buildings. Derwent Valley Mills is an important "World Heritage Site" not to be missed, along with quirky Calke Abbey, Chatsworth with its wonderful interiors; and Peveril Castle ruins set in magnificent scenic splendour.
You can "Go Ape" above and through the trees and go down mines and caverns. Try local cheeses, oat cakes (a filled pancake made with oats), or the famous Bakewell Pudding. If you like real ales try Chatsworth Gold which is made using honey from the Chatsworth Estate.
