A cathedral city, this non-metropolitan district is the county town of Lincolnshire. Like most UK cities, Lincoln attracts many of its tourists in the summer. However, the city is also busy during the second weekend of December, when the Bailgate area of the city holds its annual Christmas Market in and around the Castle grounds. The construction of a new music venue in October 2006 has attracted various popular bands. The Zutons, Babyshambles and the Charlatans have all had sold out performances at the Engine Shed. Although the Cathedral and the Castle are the citys biggest attractions, Lincoln also has the Museum of Lincolnshire Life, Whisby Nature Reserve and Hartsholme Park. Although, when paying a visit to the cathedral, be sure to look out for the Lincoln Imp. The nearby Waddington airfield and Scampton airfield bases play host to the jet aerobatic team of the RAFs Red Arrows, while the County Showground or the Cadwell Park motor racing circuit near Louth provide noisier entertainment. Famous residents include Poet Laureate Alfred Tennyson, Oscar-winning actor Jim Broadbent and cricketer Darrel Hair
The borders of Lincoln extend mainly southwards to North Hykeham and include the areas of Swallow Beck, Bracebridge Heath, Birchwood, Boultham and New Boultham
