Milton Keynes, once described by Noel Edmunds as a concrete Jungle. However throw in the new Excape Ski Dome, the Milton Keynes Bowl, Willen Lake, A host of business Head Offices, Some concrete cows, lots of roundabouts, an Ice Rink and now we have a purpose built technology centred city for the 21st century with no traffic jams. The city took its name from a nearby village and, uniquely for the UK, the urban form uses a 1km grid for the top level of street heirarchy. The Milton Keynes urban area officially includes the town of Newport Pagnell. Deliberately located equidistant from London, Birmingham, Leicester and Oxford, the city was built fundamentally to relieve housing congestion in London. Being a new city (only coming up in the 1960s) Milton Keynes does not have much history. However, the surrounding original villages are of historical interest.
The suburbs of Milton Keynes include the original villages of Bletchley (which expands into Water Eaton and Fenny Stratford), Bradwell, Great Linford, Wolverton, Willen, Walton, Stony Stratford, Middleton and New Bradwell
