This large north west town is the location of the beginning of the River Mersey at the confluence of the River Goyt and the River Tame. Stockport is home to Bramall Hall, one of the remaining Tudor halls and has other attractions such as western Europes biggest brick structure - the railway viaduct, the Hat Works museum - the UKs last working hat factory and Staircase House, a grade II listed medieval town house. Stockport is also home to Stockport County FC and rugby union team Sale Sharks. The town has a varied socioeconmic status with the wealthy suburbs of Bramhall and Hazel Grove a far cry from Adswood and Brinnington which have been badly affected by post industrial decay. Stockport had seen rapid expansion during the Industrial Revolution. The Future Stockport project is a council run regeneration scheme to revive the town in a similar way to nearby Manchester
