Epping is a market town that lies towards the north end of Epping Forest between the River Roding and the River Lea valleys. Epping Forest is an area of ancient woodland formed around 8000BC and containing grassland, ponds, bogs, heath and rivers. Epping is an ideal base from which the forest can be explored, Forest Gate to the south of the forest is equally suitable. Although now on a monday, historically, market day was always a friday.
