Paignton forms the unitary authority of Torbay, on the English Riviera, with neighbouring Brixham and is a coastal town immediately south of Torquay with the towns of Preston, Shorton and Holicombe lying between them. To the south of Paignton lies Goodrington, Galmpton Woodborough and Churston Ferrers. The towns economy relies heavily on tourism and is successful due its appeal for family holidays. The long sandy beach at Paignton along with the nearby Preston Sands are packed with visitors undertaking water sporst such as wind and kite surfing and dinghy sailing. Paignton Green is the site of Andertons and Rowlands summer funfair which visits during Paignton Regatta Week. Paignton Zoo is one of the largest in the UK and is located on the town outskirts. The Paignton and Dartmouth Steam railway is yet another popular attraction and is now operated as a heritage railway line
