Located on the river Exe in Devon Exeter is a Cathedral city and used to be a port. The University of Exeter has two campuses in the city, both with attractive parkland. The University is one of the largest employers in the city. Exeter is one of the four main sites of the University of Plymouth Exeter and also has a cathedral, founded in 1050 when the Bishops seat was moved from the nearby town of Crediton because Exeters Roman walls offered better protection against pirates, presumably Vikings. Crediton is also notable for being the birthplace of Saint Boniface. The city has a number of notable buildings such as the Ruins of Rougemont Castle, The Guidhall - the oldest minicipal building still in use in the England and St Nicholas Priory. A further site of interest is Parliament Street in the city centre which is believed to be the narrowest street in the world.
